• The Veils

A play by Jamie Bradley

“Shame, where is thy blush?”

Daniel surprises his closeted politician father watching his porn, triggering a bizarre chain of events as he prepares to present research on queer objects from antiquity. Torn between loyalty to a radical new lover and his father’s extreme political allegiances he must renegotiate his sexuality in relation to public and private life.

As a realisation grows that the objects of his research chime with his own internal battles, Daniel is propelled towards an inevitable public declaration or repeat damaging patterns from the past. His father in turn faces a powerful ultimatum from an unexpected spiritual realm.

The Veils examines layers of queer shame through the meaning of objects and the generations reflected within them, asking who pays the price for cycles of deceit and veiled realities?
