‘In a year of isolation that’s left us craving connection with others, here comes a show all about the untameable, youthful urge to gather, dance and lose yourself in music...From the microdramas of the dancefloor, the intimacies played out in pulsating darkness, or the strip-lit confessional of the ladies’ loos, the play takes a swerve into more sensational territory, and ultimately questions how real that connection with your clubbing family is.’ Lyndsey Winship, The Guardian

• POD

Guildhall/Barbican, 2020

~ An original live-stream film performance, concieved and directed by Jamie Bradley and Vicki Igbokwe, written and devised with GSMD actors

“We’re like family, baby, a collective little pod… only you don’t have to be blood to feel the vibration. It just shakes when we’re together”

A club night. A secret. A moment to shine.

Figures converse through House music for an epic ride of rhythm and connection.

But when brutal truths are revealed, the nocturnal crowd must check more than their bodies at the door.

As an ill-fated love story emerges, the bombastic dance scene sheds new light on hidden histories, the natural habits of orcas, and the complexities of negotiating one’s chosen family.

• The Beat & the Pulse

Théâtre Municipal de Fontainbleau et FONACT, France, 2022

~ An original theatre piece, conceived and directed by Jamie Bradley,  created with FONACT actors

“She lived in blissful ignorance, quite unaware she was not a girl…”

A group of writers and dancers are accidentally thrown together via a 17th Century tale of transformation, love and deceit.

Combining original text, physical story-telling and vogueing dance culture, this piece is inspired by the Abbé de Choisi’s fantastical story The Counterfeit Marquise, as it rubs up against a young generation recalibrating their sense of gender and identity.

The film focuses on a young Russian man's introduction to an ancient Roman drinking cup,  housed in a London museum.
As the cyber-bullying of his gay friends in Moscow escalates, the ancient artifact’s overt queer tone sheds new light on his situation and forces him to question his own sense of shame and liberation within a fledgling relationship.

•  Provok’d: A Restoration

Guildhall/Barbican, 2019

~ A theatre piece concieved, devised and written by Jamie Bradley with GSMD actors

As a group of actors come together to rehearse period scenes, a rising sense of anarchy bubbles up as they question which stories deserve to be retold.

Restoration Comedy collides with original rap and hip hop, challenging the parallels between a vicious and vibrant moment in theatrical history and a contemporary questioning of sexuality, gender politics and race.

I just had the joy and privilege of watching Provok’d... passionate, egoless, important. ~ Julie Hesmondhalgh
